Fun Times

Here’s some recent pictures.  I love taking Lucy and Hannah to Disneyland while the other kids are in school (as long as it’s not crowded–we’re out as soon as the lines start getting long).  Hannah’s getting braver in her old age.  She now rides the carousel by herself and loves it.  Lucy is already sick of the “baby” rides, but she obliges after the promise that some day we’ll go to Disneyland withOUT Hannah and go on “Splash Mountain”, etc.

Caleb’s basketball team is doing great (as in 37-11 last game).  How could they not with a former high school/BYU superstar basketball player (yes, I know I married way out of my league) as their coach?  :)  Or maybe it’s the combination of the 3 Sedgwick cousins on the team plus David Walker, who is at least a foot taller than all the other boys.  It’s really fun to watch those little boys, and they’re getting good at shooting into those 8-foot baskets.  I hate to imagine what they could do if they had a great team name, or even a team name at all.  I’d really feel sorry for the other team!  Maybe we’ll just let them remain name-less for the rest of the league’s sake.

Happy Birthday, Madison!

Madison turned 10 last Tuesday and we had a great day celebrating–starting with breakfast in bed.  Luckily Caleb woke me up just in time because my alarm was set for pm instead of am.  I hate when that happens!  He was so cute–he had been up for about a half hour cutting paper snowflakes for Madison’s birthday–his gift to her.  Once I got the other kids off to school, Madison and I went Christmas shopping.  Unfortunately, this was in the midst of the 24-hour stomach flu invasion in our family, and Dave was home sick.  I wasn’t feeling too hot, either, but I survived.  After picking up Lucy from pre-school, we got lunch and ate at a really fun new park in town.  Then we picked up Caleb and headed to Disneyland.  I refused to go on any rides that had fast movements because I knew I would lose my stomach.  So Caleb, Madison, and Lucy went on the fast rides together.  Lucy is a lot braver than I expected!  The day ended with a nice 45 minute wait to get out of the parking garage.  At least I didn’t throw up in the car like Caleb did a few days before.

The birthday cake pictured above is a Sedgwick tradition–however, this was my first attempt at making it.  I’ve always been intimidated by the ice cream.  This pic was taken after half of the cake was eaten and the ice cream was melting everywhere, but it was heavenly!  For a “recipe”, click here.

Peeling and Coring apples

I took Hannah and Lucy to Disneyland last week for the first time.  I got a pass for myself in July (free entrance on your birthday) and hadn’t used it since.  So I took the girls for a few hours, and we had a blast!  It was so fun to be with just them (and some friends that came with us).  I have a love-hate relationship with Disneyland.  I love seeing the kids faces light up with excitement at the rides and seeing the Disney characters in costume all around the park.  But I HATE the lines, especially with a toddler who likes to wander.  So 3 1/2 hours was a good amount of time.  That’s why it’s so nice to have passes and live a half hour away.  We’ll take you next time if you’ll come visit us!

Last week as an Enrichment activity we canned homemade applesauce.  It’s the perfect amount of chunky and sweet.  Lucy was a pro at peeling/coring/slicing the apples with this handy little gadget we borrowed from my mother-in-law.  The kids were having a hey-day peeling and eating apples while we had it, so I told them now they know what to get me for Christmas.  Canning is fun!
